Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal Disease (gum disease) is a bacterial disease and, in its earliest form, is known as 'gingivitis'. This is a reversible condition, prevented with thorough cleaning. It is mostly not painful, therefore can go undetected for years.

Unfortunately, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis (also not painful) where the surrounding structure of the teeth is compromised, i.e. there is destruction of bone and ligament. This leads to mobile teeth, and is the leading cause of tooth loss.

There are links between gum disease and systemic diseases including; stroke, heart disease, type II diabetes, Alzheimer's, low birth weight babies, and potentially others. Therefore it's important to have a healthy mouth to help improve your general health!

If you're experiencing bleeding gums, this is one sign of gum disease. It is NOT normal, and you should seek treatment from a dental professional.

AIR-FLOW EMS

'Airflow' is used for 'Guided Biofilm Therapy'. It removes biofilm, plaque and staining with warm water, air and fine polishing powder.

Biofilm is an invisible sticky layer that builds up on your teeth (only a few hours after brushing!).
Food deposits stick on to this biofilm to form plaque. When plaque is left on the teeth and gums for too long, it calcifies to hardened plaque, know as calculus/tartar- this can't be removed at home.

AirFlow works great for dental implants and orthodontic appliances.
