Ageing population
With an ageing, and increasing, population, this mean's more teeth for Dentists to look after! Hygienists' help reduce the work load by maintaining existing restorative treatment, preventing disease/ further treatment.
Periodontal disease
Periodontal (gum) disease, is the leading cause of tooth loss! Hygienists' are trained in preventing and treating gum disease. Healthy gums support teeth!
Sugar
Tooth decay is the world's third most prevalent, PREVENTABLE disease. Sugar causes this, as well as systemic diseases i.e. diabetes type II. Your Hygienist gives education on diet and lifestyle, which is good for your mouth, and general health
Your appointment
What to expect at your visit to FLOSS
Introduction
We'll ask you to complete some documents to get an understanding of who you are, inc. a medical & dental history. Then we will discuss oral hygiene.
Periodontal Therapy
1. a gum assessment will taken, with a diagnosis
2. a full mouth 'professional mechanical plaque removal' (clean) of the gums and teeth. You may require more than one appointment, or even a referral to a specialist (Periodontist)
Dental X-Ray's
If required, dental x-rays will be taken. Hygienists are particularly interested in gum disease/ bone levels.
Fluoride Varnish
Fluoride Varnish application is offered and can be applied at the end of the appointment. Ideally eat before the appointment.
Screening
Screenings will be obtained at every appointment. We will feel outside the jaw then complete visual checks inside the mouth, ruling out an abnormalities including Oral Cancer.
Whitening
We offer BOUTIQUE whitening at-home treatment. Please book extra time/ another appointment for this service.
**We are NOT dentists. Dentists are highly trained in the treatment of tooth decay, and other aspects of dentistry. It is important to visit a Dentist regularly.
